Creativity

“The creative person is willing to live with ambiguity. They don't need problems solved immediately and can afford to wait for the right ideas.”

- Abe Tannenbaum

I only recently began playing with painting; my personal brand of perfectionism often influenced me to avoid less controllable mediums! I had to learn to embrace "imprecision" and "mess" as part of the process to creating emotionally evocative, personally meaningful, work. Now, I paint with regularity, and have multiple unfinished projects; my current challenge - to let the creative process develop in its own organic  time!

Poetry

Poetic expression is its own form of therapy. Self-care at its finest, I've often found it a source of comfort and encouragement in times of confusion, and struggle, or simply when in my own quiet contemplation.

Pearls

Once

i collected books

for the sake of impressing myself

hoarding the wise words of

Others

brave enough to speak their truths

i thought I could wear their brilliance

a string of wisdom to brighten my throat

Only

to find brilliance dulled

in the dusty passages of time on shelves

muted by the discordant sighs

Of

my own misalignment

my striving for a superiority

i never knew i never needed

Onward

i go now towards realms

unimagined undreamed and unexplored

as grits of sand draw me

Out

of my self and into myself

revealing and creating pearls

that none but me may treasure

Puppetry

"Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection... the lovers, the dreamers, and me...." - Kermit the Frog / Jim Henson

For whatever reason, my queer little heart developed a life-long love of the muppets and the storytelling powerhouse that is modern puppetry, when I was quite young. As an adult I can still remember the first time I wandered into a fabric store (while playing hooky from my intro chemistry class) and, seeing a bolt of hideously funky green fabric. Something clicked in my brain, and I started to play around with fabric-craft. Sewing is a meditative experience for me, much like painting, and I'll probably be tinkering at the sewing machine long into my golden years.
